Chief Financial Officer
Position Summary:
Reporting to the
Executive Director, the CFO will define the process and
infrastructure/systems needed to support substantial growth over the
next five to 10 years. S/he will continue to build and manage effective
and streamlined administrative/financial systems, including financial,
accounting, legal, information technology, human resources and physical
infrastructure. As a member of the senior management team, the CFO will
be involved with strategic planning, evaluation, and professional
development initiatives, as well as planning for Grace Smith House's
future growth. The CFO will oversee all compliance and recognition of
government contracts and private grants. S/he must be able to adapt to a
continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and
deadline-oriented workplace.
Organization Information:
The
mission of Grace Smith House (GSH) is to enable women and their children
to live free from domestic violence through: Providing shelter and
apartments, advocacy, counseling and education; raising the
consciousness of the community regarding the extent, type and
seriousness of domestic violence; and initiating and taking positions on
public policies in order to provide options which empower victims of
domestic violence. GSH serves hundreds of women and children annually

Specific Job Responsibilities:
Must have the skill capacity to:
1.
Perform month-end closing procedures on an accrual basis, including but
not limited to reconciling all transactions, and preparing depreciation
schedules and making related adjustments.
2. Implement/maintain internal accounting controls.
3. Oversee budget development and implementation.
4. Coordinate all audit activities.
5.
Prepare, on a monthly basis: Balance Sheet, Income Statement,
Surplus/Deficit Statement by Program, projected Reimbursement Rate
Analyses, Budget Vs. Actual by Program (inclusive of allocations and
explanation of large variances), and Cash Flow Projections.
6. Manage the areas of maintenance, human resources and information technology.
7.
Serve as the business partner to the ED on the organization's
financial, budgeting, and administrative processes including HR,
payroll, and benefits functions, with an eye to continuously developing
and improving systems.
8. Manage the organization's physical
infrastructure, physical plant, and system maintenance (phone system,
security, cleaning, supplies, etc.) with assistance.
9. Engage the
finance committee of the board of directors to develop short-. medium-,
and long-term financial plans and projections.
10. Represent the
organization to financial partners, including financial institutions,
investors, foundation executives, auditors, public officials, etc.
11. Remain up to date on nonprofit best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations.
12.
Be willing to develop successful and trusting relationships with
program recipients and teach/facilitate financial management skills to
them.
Supervisory Responsibility:
The CFO will supervise the
Human Resources Manager, Office Manager, MIS Coordinator, and
maintenance worker(s). Student interns and/or volunteers may be
assigned as needed.
Working hours:
Business hours with occasional evenings for committee meetings and other events, as directed by the Executive Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree (MA/MBA in Business or Finance, or CPA preferred).
•
Experience in a senior financial-management role, partnering with
executive staff, resulting in the development and implementation of
creative financial management strategies.
• Significant experience in
or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and
grant accounting, compliance and reporting.
• Proven effectiveness leading professionals in finance and accounting.
• Technology savvy with the ability to develop and implement new processes and systems that increase efficiency.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and commitment to the Grace Smith House mission.
• Clean, valid driver’s license

Child Care Worker ( 9h per week)
General Statement of Duties:
The Child Care Worker will be responsible to the Director of Counseling Services and shall facilitate weekly children’s groups; teach non-violent problem solving, encourage expression of feelings and provide play/recreation. The child care worker shall also provide direct services to individuals and groups of children, help supervise students and volunteers, work cooperatively with staff, students and volunteers, maintain a safe, pleasant, healthy play environment, help evaluate children’s services, maintain records and statistics, advocate for children, teach and role model non-violence and continue to learn about the effects of domestic violence on children.
The responsibilities of the position shall include but not be limited to:
1. Plan activities for children, age appropriate, self esteem enhancing, cooperative games, non-violent conflict solving, variety from physically active to quiet, structured, creative.
2. Lead groups, facilitate work of helpers (volunteer, student, child care helpers). Two groups a week and extra group during special event time.
3. Keep playroom orderly; inventory of supplies; order when needed.
4. Use community resources.
5. Keep records
6. Work with individual child/family when needed.
7. Meet weekly with coordinator
8. Work with Shelter Child Care staff on joint ventures.
Working Hours:
5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday and every third Wednesday, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.. Also must attend weekly staff meeting, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m., Monday.

Associates degree preferred, but 3 years of relevant experience will be considered
